Back in Stock email lands in promotions/spam

Sometimes our notification emails may end up in Spam, Junk, or Promotions folders instead of your main inbox. This usually happens because email providers (like Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo) use automatic filters to protect users from unwanted emails.

How to find the Back-in-Stock email

Please check yours:

  • ✅ Spam / Junk folder

  • ✅ Promotions tab (for Gmail users)

  • ✅ All Mail

  • ✅ Search your inbox for the email sender or headlines

How to reduce “Promotions/Spam” for Back-in-Stock emails

Email providers (Gmail, Outlook, etc.) automatically classify emails based on content, structure, and tone. If your email looks too “marketing”, it’s more likely to land in Promotions or Spam.

Your goal: 👉 Make Back-in-Stock emails look like personal, transactional notifications, not marketing campaigns

1️⃣ Avoid “Marketing / Salesy” Words (Very Important)

These words often trigger Promotions tab or Spam filters:

❌ Avoid:

Sale, Discount, Promotion, Deal, Limited time, Buy now, Shop now, Hurry, Don’t miss out, Free, Special offer, Best price, Flash sale, Exclusive, % OFF, Coupon

✅ Use instead (neutral, transactional tone):

  • “is back in stock”

  • “is available again”

  • “You can now order”

  • “The product you requested is available”

  • “Your requested item is available”

Example

❌ Bad:

🎉 Good news! Your favorite product is BACK IN STOCK! Buy now before it’s gone!

✅ Good:

The product you requested is now back in stock.

2️⃣ Subject Line Optimization

Keep subject lines:

  • Simple

  • Informational

  • No emojis

  • No hype

❌ Avoid:

  • 🔥 Back in stock – Limited time only!

  • Your item is back – Buy now!

  • Don’t miss out, it’s available again!

✅ Good subject lines:

  • Your requested item is back in stock

  • Product available: [Product name]

  • [Store name] – Item back in stock

3️⃣ Keep the Email Short & Transactional

Promotional emails:

  • Long content

  • Many images

  • Banners

  • Big buttons

  • Marketing copy

Back-in-stock emails should be:

  • Short

  • Simple

  • 1 purpose only: notify

Recommended structure:

Email subject & heading: {{product.title_and_variant}} is available

Description: You previously requested in-stock notification for this product. We are glad to notify you that the product is now in stock.

Button text: Take a look

4️⃣ Button Text Matters

Buttons can trigger Promotions if they sound salesy.

❌ Avoid button text:

  • Buy now

  • Shop now

  • Get yours

  • Order now

✅ Better:

  • View product

  • View item

  • Go to product

  • See product details

5️⃣ Do NOT Mix Marketing with Notification

❌ Bad:

Your item is back in stock!

By the way, we’re running a 20% sale on all products today!

This instantly moves the email into Promotions.

✅ Good:

Your requested item is back in stock.

This message was sent because you signed up for restock notifications.

6️⃣ Important Reality Check (for your internal team)

Even with perfect optimization:

⚠️ No one can guarantee inbox placement. Gmail decides based on user behavior (opens, replies, moving emails out of Promotions).

But following these rules can significantly reduce Promotions/Spam placement.
